With software-free operation, cross-platform compatibility, USB 3.1 speed, advanced security features and Aegis Configurator compatibility, Apricorn’s Aegis Secure Key 3Z takes data security to new levels of efficiency and affordability. This easy to use Drive incorporates onboard PIN authentication with 256-bit AES XTS hardware encryption. The Drive is FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Validated to meet U.S government standards for information security. FIPS Validation certifies 11 areas of cryptographic security including physical security, cryptographic key management and design integrity. The Aegis Secure Key 3Z was designed to work with the Aegis Configurator. This app allows the Administrator to configure 10 or more drives at once and automatically format / program features such as Admin and User PINs, PIN lengths, user forced enrollment, read-only mode, brute force protection settings, drive formats, and securely load files onto the drive during set up.The Aegis Secure Key 3Z is the most versatile encrypted drive available. It’s software-free and OS agonistic so it works with any system. The drive has a rechargeable battery which allows it to be authenticated and unlocked before it’s ever connected to its host. This onboard authentication circumvents all key logger software / malware tactics. None of its critical security parameters are ever shared with the host.The Drive can be configured with independent User and Admin PINs, making it ideal for corporate and government deployment. If the User forgets their PIN, the Admin can reset it for them without wiping out the contents on the drive. Aegis Secure Key further protects the data with a programmable “Brute Force Hack Mechanism” which deletes the encryption key and destroys the data if an incorrect PIN is entered more than the programmable limit is set to allow. Secure Key 3Z has many new features including user forced enrollment, two read only modes, lock override which keeps it unlocked through USB re-enumeration / reboot, one-time recovery PINs, user forced enrollment, and programmable PIN lengths.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCT & CUSTOMER SERVICE!!I purchased my Apricorn in October 2018 and it quickly became a mandatory piece of equipment in my work process.For some reason it quit charging a few weeks ago. I filled out an RMA form on the Apricorn web on April 3rd, and it was approved by Brandon about a half hour later. I sent the device back to them the same day by US mail. Low and behold, I received the brand new replacement today 05/10/19!IMPORTANT NOTE: I copy the contents of the Apricorn to another super secure device every day, without fail. So all I had to do today was copy the contents back !!Thank you Brandon!_________I was recently hacked!So now my most important files now reside on this device, not my work station. The contents are encrypted and only accessible on the Apricorn Aegis Secure Key with a password.I have seen concerns here about operating temperature. The device shows up on my system temperature monitor and has never gone higher than 86 degrees which doesn’t bother me a bit! – Thank you Apricorn for easing my mind – IM

Solves Chromebook encryption issues… but not an optimal solution.
If you’re a Chromebook user, you know that a big flaw is that it doesn’t work with conventional encryption systems. You can secure folders on the internal disk, but storage is limited. If you store files on Google Drive they are encrypted, kinda. But your data is still out there in the cloud. With this key, the encryption takes place totally within the key so there’s not compatability problems with the chromebook.Pros:* A secure external drive that works with Chromebooks.* Your data is not in the cloud. It’s in your possession only on a device that would be difficult to hack.* Setup and basic functions were easy for me. (after I watched a how-to video on You Tube.)Cons:* Pricey. I got the 16 gig and compressed files to get the most use out of available space.. Additional gigs are prohibitively expensive for me– as expensive as a higher end chromebook!* It get’s too hot. Other reviewers have this issue. Will the heat affect data integrity?* Several reviewers say the device died quickly. If I can’t trust it,I have to back the data up somewhere else (on another Aegis? Huh?) which defeats my original purpose.* I can’t get the Chromebook zip system to work on the drive. I zip, but can’t unzip. My workaround is to use Video Panda, but I it is very slow and files have to be individually compressed.

This thing is great – easy to set up and easy to use. I like the added protection. The key ring attachment is really nice as well – a lot of companies use those little woven loops with a metal atachment which 100% of the time fall off (not good for an encrypted USB drive).Only con is this thing gets HOT if you leave it plugged in for more than a few minutes.. like to the point where you could warm a mug of coffee on top of it. I feel like that’s a little concerning and most likely has to do with the battery charging – so I tend to use it and unplug quickly. Note that they recommend you plug in and charge for 90 minutes or so… Overall, probably a non issue.

Easy to use and feels safe
I think it’s a bit hard to set up the first time, but once they initial password is entered then it’s quite easy to use. It gets incredible hot though. Not sure if that is a problem for the drive or not.

Potential hardware failure for 3z model preventing access to drive
Used this device without issue for several weeks. Loved it, thought it was going to be a great long-term solution. Then out of the blue (possibly related to a full discharge of the battery from non-use) I couldn’t unlock my drive anymore. I thought I was entering my PIN incorrectly, but it turns out I was able to access admin mode. Long story short, my device had a hardware failure (what support told me). In my case, I didn’t have a backup (stupid) and am royally f’d. Why did my device randomly have a hardware failure preventing me from unlocking my drive, but not from entering admin mode? I can’t work with this product any longer.

Good to a fault
Encryption is great. Pain to set up Admin Pin and user pin. Small buttons make it difficult to unlock. When using with a plotter to print construction drawings, plotter gives a message that it is the wrong format. Remove and reinstall 2-3 times and it works. Plotter tech has been out–finds there is a glitch in the formatting software that was on the drive. Reformatting loses all of your work and then there is a chance it still has the same issue. Tried it several times. Otherwise good product.

As described easy to setup.Very happy with it, as described.My only concern is the level of heat it puts off when copying large amounts of data on or off it but it also has a rechargable battery inside for the keypad so likely just from charging at the same time, have tested it lots seems to run fine, so hopefully that’s just Normal. Norhong serious anyways andnlike I said runs awesome, takes out ability to be fished or keylogged.

Muy buena. Los botones se sienten durables y la memoria es bastante sólida. Definitivamente se calienta mucho después de unos minutos de estar conectada pero al parecer es normal, aunque si puede llegar a ser super incómodo de sostener después. Ojalá la tapa tuviese algún método de retención al cuerpo de la memoria o que tuviese una cubierta para tapar completamente los botones. Vale la pena invertir en esto a cambio de la seguridad de tus documentos y demás. Espero y dure bastante tiempo y en cualquier caso, que el fabricante respalde su producto.
