Amazing invention
Iâm so glad I found these!!!! I commute to work all year and got fed up with triple-gloving in the winter, losing all dexterity, and my hands would still get cold. I broke some fingers last year, and now they get so painful in cold weather. But with these bar mitts, Iâve found I can wear a thin pair of cheap knit gloves and my fingertips only get slightly cold but not uncomfortably so. Iâve worn them in weather that was 20s-40s so far. You could wear a slightly thicker glove and be toasty warm. If you stick your arm out to signal a lot (I do), it takes just a few times to get used to sliding your hand back in the mitts on a corner, versus putting it straight back on the bar. But itâs not hard to learn if you donât panic and are fairly comfortable on your bike. I am so happy I bought these. I am an average sized female and size M in just about all things, and size M in these was perfect. They fit just fine over my Trek Domane handlebars and shifting/braking is not an issue because theyâre flexible so they just flex with the movement of your shifters. They have reflective writing on the outside which helps with visibility at night, because they do block the side view of my front light since theyâre so big. I took them off on a snowy day while my bike sat outside, so they wouldnât be wet on the trip home. But they are so easy to install and remove, it only took a couple seconds. My husband said they look goofy and was a naysayer at first, but now that Iâve stopped complaining about my cold hands, heâs also a fan.

High-quality simple solution for cold weather riding
Iâve been riding seriously for the past 15 years and I was looking for something that might be better than just wind-blocking gloves. Being in the Bay Area CA, weâre lucky to only have temps dip into the 30s F on the coldest evenings of the year, with most daytime temps in the 50s at least. These are perfect with my summer riding gloves, even a bit warm. With a bit of fiddling, these can be set up to ride a bit lower on the bars, which opens up the tops more vertically (in other words, instead of covering the top/front quadrant at a 90* angle, itâs a bit less than that, rotated a bit more forward if that makes sense) which lets the steamy hot air out more easily, lowering the temp and humidity level inside of the mitts. Iâve also discovered that if one doesnât put the horizontal portions of the mitts through the enclosed Velcro portion (makes more sense with them installed), they can be opened up wider horizontally such that hands can be positioned on the flat portions of the bar and still be somewhat protected by the mitt. They donât look dorkier than anything else I wear to stay comfortable on a bike for hours at a time, and I donât even think they look half bad personally. Theyâre certainly made from quality materials and assembled well. Iâm confident that theyâll last years.Overall, itâs a smart and simple product that works well and seems like it will last years. Iâm happy that they exist.

Great for winter riding
If you want to ride your road bike in the winter, get these. Your hands will thank you. It’s slightly more difficult to shift gears with them on, but not enough to be dangerous or annoying. Make sure you take them off when it gets warmer, or your hands will get overheated.

Much Warmer than Gloves alone. But they block my front light, making me invisible from the side
Three rides with these so far and while they’re not perfect, they are a VAST improvement over gloves alone. I have really long skinny fingers, so finding gloves that fit is nearly impossible. Even men’s extra large sizes are often too short in the fingers, but they’re so big around that my hands just swim in them – and all the bulk tends to cut off my circulation which makes matters worse. Plus, I’ve got “issues” with cold fingers – once they get cold it’s like the blood just stops circulating or something so no amount of insulation helps. These have allowed me to wear my thinner gloves which actually fit and don’t cut off my circulation. So far I’ve used them down into the high 30s and stayed nice and warm. Today I tossed one of those chemical hand warmers in each one to create a nice little “micro climate” which helps my finger “issues” tremendously.I have only two complaints. First, some air does come in from the openings, so the backs of my hands get a bit cold. On the advice of other posters, I got the large size, so maybe a medium or small would have made that less of an issue? I’m thinking of trying to rig some sort of “puff” around my wrists or something to keep the cold air from getting in. I’ll look ridiculous, but who cares! Or maybe if I keep looking I can find some slightly thicker gloves which would also help. The second problem is that my light is now positioned between the two bar mitts, making it pretty much invisible from the side. So I’m currently trying to figure out if I can get some sort of clip-on LEDs or something to attach to the outside of them after dark to make sure that I’m good and visible to turning vehicles. Anybody have any suggestions?

These make an enormous difference for cycling in the cold and rain. Way better than the thickest ski gloves because they form a cozy pocket of warm air for your hands to live in, without obstructing the controls. Waterproof too!

I have a 13 mile commute which takes me around an hour. Cold fingers in the winter is my biggest issue so I invested in these.I tried them out at 8°c a few weeks ago and they were so warm that I took my gloves off for the last 3 miles. I expected this, but just wanted to try them out.Today was 2°c on the way to work and 4°c home. On the way in my little fingers got cold after about 3 miles but they did warm up again within a couple of miles and stayed very warm for the rest of the journey. Coming home, my hands were very warm for the whole trip.I just wear normal gloves. They do take a bit of getting used to as you need to thread your hands in each time you signal but Iâm pretty much used to it after three trips.I found that I needed to keep pulling them back on as they were slowly slipping off but itâs quite possible that I havenât been putting them on properly. There is a lot of fabric so it was just a case of pulling them back every now and then. There was little chance that theyâd actually fall off.Putting them on and off takes seconds.Iâd highly recommend these to anyone who cycles during the winter.

Installation on drop bars is quick. With Bar Mitts I can wear thin gloves down to -5C and be able to shift and brake easily. If you love to ride in winter then these are indispensable for drop handlebars.I wear XL gloves and these are just the right size.

I have used piggies on my kayak and these are just like that – only better! This takes all the wind chill off your extremities (well, your fingers anyway) and still leaves you able to operate the brakes from the hoods or on the drops. I much prefer using these to big puffy gloves or mits. I can wear thin gloves or nuts in these or even leave my hands naked and still be warm. I like that I can easily switch them between my bikes too.

Mounted these on my Ritchey Ergomax bars. Fit well and keep my hands super warm, so warm that I usually ride with my summer gloves even when its -4 Celsius the coldest I have ridden so far this year. Very happy with them and would buy again. For the people that want to shift with your hands on the out side its possible but the neoprene is quite thick.
