Pistons wouldn’t retract without manual force
Installed these to replace a cracked piston in Shimano XT 8000 brakes and they fit but did not work. I used both pistons and the major square face seals that seal the pistons into the caliper. The pistons and seals did fit tight and seal up well with no leakage. My problem was that the pistons would never retract enough to let go of the rotor, yes they clamped really tight but when releasing they just barely released and allowed the wheel to spin but the rotor rubbed the whole way around. Yes I know how to center brakes and get rid of rotor rub, and centering was not the problem, I could see when I braked that they would clamp but then only retract maybe 1mm, way less than normal.I bled the brakes and pushed the pistons back into the caliper probably 20 times and it changed nothing. It always came back to the same situation. I included pics of the pistons installed and cycled all the way in and out of the caliper.I ordered a different replacement piston set and replaced the rings and pistons, bled the system and they worked just like they are supposed to. Good lever range with full retraction after they were reset, and powerful braking with no leaks. For this reason I believe that the Yutuing set was defective. Based on a little research I believe that it is friction between the piston and the seal that causes the piston to retract. Maybe it was just an off-spec seal set, because neither one of the pistons would retract more than 1mm.Like I said, I finally got it fixed by using another manufacturer, if you run into the same problem, don’t go crazy trying to fix it, just try another piston/seal set.

Repaired my brakes!
Factory XT piston had a chip that caused noise. This kit had the new pistons, seals and O rings to replace the parts and get me on the trail. No more noise.
