With a new, compact body, the Storm 400 is more ergonomic, and the updated user interface includes a secondary switch for easy mode selection. In addition, the updated optical efficiency not only provides brighter light, but also saves battery life that you can now easily track with a six-setting, three-LED battery meter. The Storm 400 also has three different colored night vision modes and peripheral white lighting for close-range activities like carefully re-racking for the final summit pitch in the dark. The headlamp has our Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting. Very Bright
Bought for hiking in the mountains at night. Love the brightness of the spotlight, very helpful when you hear something deep in the woods. The regular setting is great for close range lighting and the red light is great for not ruining your night vision. Takes 3 AAA battery and honestly I prefer this while hiking so you donât have to carry a heavy battery pack or wait for the lamp to charge. Easy to switch the batteries and keep on going.

Would buy again
I like this headlamp but I will say that it doesn’t throw and beam very far. For the area it does, it’s very bright and has multiple settings. They only really complaint that I have is that the battery latch can be difficult to latch and I did break one. That being said I contact customer service and they responded very quickly and took care of it. Great company and great product!

One of the best headlamps Multi use
Iâve been using the storm 400 or three years and I will not change, even though it does not have USB rechargeable, itâs the only headlight to get that bright, very easy to use and you can use red green or blue light for emergency. I like the fact that I can use it for FISHING, I can easily use the side and tap for high beam back to low beam. Itâs been constantly durable. I can drop it. Itâs one of the best ones out there.

Pretty awesome
I like all the different light functions and how bright it is. The battery life didnât seem to last too long but maybe it was just because they were the batteries that came with it? Arguable I have used it a lot. Taking out the battery and changing them was a little bit of a pain I had to use a screwdriver to pop one of them out. All in all though I love it.

Great headlamp!
This lamp is very bright and has awesome battery life. I love that there are so many colors and modes. Particularly green as it gives the best visibility while preserving your night vision best. As a service member, I needed a headlamp that would dim green, and when I turn on and off, remember the last settings and remain dim and green. Its the only lamp I’ve found that does that. I have had some issues with the capacitive auto bright feature. I do very much wish that I could disable that. Not only is it not tactical, you risk blowing out your rhodopsin and blinding yourself and everyone around you if you touch the thing in the wrong place. That being said I have had several lamps and this one has the best battery life with options for decently bright and the color green.

Better than the older version Storm — Update: Broken after 3 years
I use headlamps when doing home repairs, not outdoor active pursuits. For my needs, the Storm works great.I bought the 400 to replace a 5-year old Storm. (I think it was the original version with 250 lumen output and white and red lamps–no green or blue. That headlamp was working perfectly until it died of corrosion from leaking Amazon-branded batteries that were nowhere near their expiration date.)My older version had an incessant high-pitched coil-whine when the light was on. This one is silent. It’s much brighter at it’s max setting, as expected. I always had to use my older Storm at the highest setting while I don’t with the new one.The biggest improvement is the second physical button to toggle between the lamp colors. It’s much more intuitive than using multiple taps of the same button to toggle color, brightness, and flashing. I never need anything other than solid white, but I would sometimes inadvertently toggle the red or start the flashing and have a hard time getting it back to white with my older version. This user experience is much better. The one thing that is a step back from the previous version is there is no longer a pad on the inside of the headband where it contacts the forehead. It’s slightly more uncomfortable to wear for a long time and leaves an indentation in the skin from the plastic.Overall, I’m pleased. The build quality of my original Storm was great and would have gone forever if the batteries didn’t kill it. Hopefully this new version will prove just as good over time.UPDATE 11/30/2024:My 3-year old Storm 400, which is used 100% indoors for home repairs and doesn’t even go outside, is no longer usable due to a tiny plastic piece in the casing that broke off. This piece is critical for positioning the headlamp and without it, the lamp flops downward and doesn’t illuminate what is directly in front of you. This is now the third Black Diamond headlamp that I’ve had that has broken and I think it might be time to move on from this company’s products.

Many useful features
I have a smaller version of this that takes 3 AAA batteries, but I wanted to get something a little brighter so I picked up this 4 AAA battery version. It is very light weight and the headband is adjustable easily and very comfortable. I wear it directly on my head or in the winter I can wear it over a cap. The beam pattern is useful with a decent combination of spill and flood to see ahead of me. I use the red mode quite a bit for just enough light to find my way around in the dark without blindingly bright output. I like the feature to tap the side for max brightness and the fact that it has memory and when powered on returns to the last used setting. You can angle the head up and down to adjust how far ahead of you it illuminates so you can match your lighting to your activity. A great little light for anything from night time dog walking to hiking in the wilderness.

I have owned several different head lamps in the past, and this one is by far my favourite. It is bright, comfortable to wear, and includes a useful night mode function which many head lamps do not have. Battery life is very good. I have had no issues with this headlamp in the year that I have been using it.
