GREAT drive, fast and small!
I got my previous portable storage solution, the platter-based HDD WD My Passport Ultra in 2TB capacity, back in mid-2015. It’s held up for almost eight years and I’ve been very proud of it. Recently it started to click, most likely meaning that it is on its way out. I take that to mean that the read-write head is striking the inside of the case on occasion. It actually happens maybe only once every two or three minutes when it’s idle. So, maybe it’s not that bad. And I could retire it to use as an only-occasionally backup drive – when I was copying and moving content from it to the new drive so it could be more easily accessible, the clicking did not occur nearly as often, so maybe I was worried for not much.Which is, fortunately, not an issue at all with the new SSD that I got just recently: Crucial X6! Same capacity, taking up the same position on my desk, but incredibly small – and no moving parts to wear out! YAY!Though of course I don’t know for sure, I imagine that the inside is a small form-factor M.2 drive flanked with heat spreaders – the only other option is that the drive takes up the entire space inside the case.Either way, the drive is awesome and performs quite quickly for any number of applications. Much more quickly than the old magnetic drive, that’s for sure. A weird thing is that it does not like CrystalDiskMark – creating its test file and then the speed test on it, well, takes a lot longer than I thought it would, whether I keep it on the default of 1 GB or go down to 128 MB. This makes this program unreliable for speed tests in my configuration – if I did not stop the test and let it show the speed that it determined, it would likely be much slower than the actual driveâs speed.Speaking of my configuration: my computer does not have a USBC port on it natively, and this drive only has a USBC port on it, most likely to save on space and keep the drive as miniscule as it possibly can be. Thus, I had to get a USBC to USBA adapter cable, which I had gotten before for use with another drive. As far as I can tell, without being able to use a benchmark program as previously stated, the functionality and speed is fine with this SUNGUY brand cable. And the cable is fairly snazzy as well as you can see, its nylon-esque cover being braided!Back at its inception two years ago, this drive was incredibly expensive at $285, and it was only available in 1 and 2 TB variants – now there’s a 4 terabyte variant which I may get sometime. I was able to get this 2 TB variant for $110 and I am very happy about that. In retrospect, it might have been a bit better to be a bit more circumspect about my purchase and spend the extra $20 on the X8, which comes with its own USBA adapter and is apparently faster? (limited by the USBA connection, of course)But that’s all right – this will do for me for now, and I’m sure that somewhere down the line I will get the X8 as well, and repurpose this drive for maybe an extra storage device for my Xbox One – or the other way around. Goodness knows it’s slow enough with its magnetic drive built in.So yeah. get this drive if you want a little extra capacity and you’re able to find a good spot for it to sit on your desk. Since it is so lightweight and small and thus likely to get lost if you don’t secure it, I do highly recommend getting cable clips like those little adhesive/silicone ones that can grab onto cables and hold things securely in place – the ones I got have the brand names of OHill, ChefBee and ONME (yeah, I have lots of cables that need securing! ) and are sold here on Amazon for around $10, and come in both white and black (ONME had some Browns in their collection as you can see, but they stopped selling them over the past two years). Do some shopping as your needs entail ðTake care, awesome fellow computer people, and happy storing!

Blazing Fast and Ultra-Portable: My Review of the Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs
I purchased two Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs back in December of 2022 and I couldn’t be more pleased with their performance. As someone who travels around the world for work, I rely on these drives to store all my important files and media. One drive is dedicated to my work files, while the other is for my entertainment needs, holding hundreds of TV series and movies that I can easily access from my MacBook or iPad thanks to the USB C connection and the high speed at which these drives run.One of the things I love about these drives is their durability. With no moving parts, I feel extremely confident that they will last a long time. I personally purchased the L LTGEM EVA Hard Storage Case for these drives, and they fit perfectly, with two drives per case. I’ve dropped and knocked these drives a few times, but they still work perfectly. In fact, I’m so impressed with these drives that I’m about to purchase four more to backup all my family photos, videos, and special files, which I will keep locked away in my fireproof safe. That’s how confident I am in their quality.Overall, I highly recommend the Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD HDs. Their size is amazing, and the speed is blazing fast, making them perfect for video editing. And speaking of size, I love that I can put one of these 4TB drives in my shirt pocket when I’m in the office and take it from conference room to conference room without even noticing the weight. In conclusion, these drives are amazing, and I can’t recommend them enough.

Tiny, amazing storage size
This 4tb external SSD was about 60% more expensive than comparable external HDs, but it offers a free really key advantages. It’s very tiny. I looked at the pictures, but I still didn’t get just how tiny it actually is. I love that it takes up virtually no space and can be easily transported in a pocket. You could put it in that little pocket in your jeans. It doesn’t need a separate power cord. This is actually my favorite feature. One less cord on my desk it always a great deal. It’s much faster than an external HD. I’m connecting to an older iMac, which only has USB 2, but if I ever connect it to my laptop I’ll be able to take advantage of USB-C speeds. Compared to an HD, it also doesn’t have to spin up, which takes my previous western digital HD up to v 10 seconds, so I’m still seeing a nice speed boost. There are bigger, faster SSDs, but I will take the small speed hit for the size advantage.I did not have to format for Mac, as some reviewers said. Mine came in exfat, which is compatible between both.SSDs are much more reliable than HDs, in both longevity and shock resistance. This SSD is small enough to easily transport, which means you have to consider dropping it (or stopping whatever bag it’s in). SSDs withstand about 50x more shock than HDs (~1500g vs ~30g).It’s quieter and uses less power than an HD.

EDIT: Nor sure why but the seller is refunding my money as they think Iâm returning the product. Not the case. Itâs awesome. I hope they read this and reverse the refund. No other way to contact them.Wow did SSD drives ever get SMALL! This version connected right to my iPhone and iPad and just worked. No issues. Love that! Included short cable a super bonus too. This tiny drive will give me almost 5 hours of recording at ProRes 4K 30 fps. Very happy with that. Saving up for next one.

The SDD is quite compact, it operates fast, and compatible to almost every device like laptop PC phone etc.. Works fine when you use USB A male to USB C cable to connect the SSD to the PC or Laptops which does not have USB C Female input.. It is pretty light weight and fits easily into pocket as well. Best for the price. And the default format of this SSD is exFAT which is a common format which works with Mac and Windows. Though NTFS works with Mac as well but only for copying from it to the pc, you cannot Write back onto the SSD from the pc, cannot modify or rename etc. But you cannot make partitions or resize exFAT format SSD. If you want to make partitions then you have to format the SSD to NTFS and then you will be able to encrypt the files, use Bitlocker and the files will be safer as compared to exFAT. While exFAT format is less reliable as compared to NTFS because NTFS can automatically repair files and folders if there’s a power failure or errors unlike exFAT. Thankfully there are software for Mac which can read and also Write NTFS, so it is better to choose it while formatting.

Grwat value, but a bit slow. Does not require as much power as faster drives, which is a big plus. Runs hot and slows down if you write big anounts of data. Works perfect for my needs to add easily accessible storage to a laptop for music production, where this is used to store sample libraries and sampled instruments that rarely change. Perfect “throwavay drive” that lasts while it lasts, with data well backed up the day it fails 🙂
