Product Description
THE ULTIMATE HIKING SOCKS
The only option that truly takes on the rigors of the trail. Darn Tough socks are the most comfortable and durable socks you’ll ever own.
MICRO CREW HEIGHT
Sitting near mid-calf, it’s the best sock height for everyday casual and dress. A shorter, more concise take on the traditional crew height. Peeks just above the top of a standard hiking boot.
ULTIMATE COMFORT
No slipping, no bunching, and no blisters. The ultimate fiber for breathability and comfort in all conditions, the All Weather Performance means cool in the summer, warm in the winter.
CUSHION DENSITY
Cushion in the Hike/Trek category features terry loops under the foot, and in the taller styles reaches above the ankle for comfort and protection. Mid-level cushion density under foot.
TRUE SEAMLESS
Undetectable seam fusion for an ultra smooth, invisible feel. Darn Tough uses high density knitting techniques, which means there are more stitches per inch. This leads to a more comfortable, durable, great fitting sock with no added bulk.
SUSTAINABILITY
Darn Tough aims to improve the well-being of our community by locally designing and manufacturing the most comfortable, durable, best fitting socks while continuously reducing our environmental impacts.
MATERIALS IN OUR SOCKS
Every material we use in our socks has been carefully chosen and tested to meet our rigorous durability standards. We currently use natural and synthetic fibers, and only 3 types of fiber per sock. As you’d expect, we are actively investigating and testing new fibers and yarn blends that do not appear in our current products. We’ve prioritized Merino wool throughout our product lines and our goal of producing the most responsibly made product is reflected in our commitment to the success of the Responsible Wool Standard.
MERINO WOOL
Merino wool is the most important and relied upon fiber in our products and accounted for 56% of our yarn consumption by weight last year. For many years we’ve prioritized the use of Merino wool exclusively from sheep that have not been exposed to the practice of mulesing. In early 2019 we made a commitment to support the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and shift 100% of our wool supply to RWS-certified Merino wool.
RWS is a voluntary standard with strict guidelines to protect animal welfare and adhere to progressive, sustainable farm and land management practices while maintaining traceability throughout the entire supply chain.
Although the market share for RWS is only estimated at ~1% of global wool production, the number of certified sources has grown substantially over the last couple years. Today, 100% of the wool we procure is RWS-certified.
RECYCLED NYLON
We use REPREVE, a nylon 6 fiber made from pre-consumer industrial waste that would otherwise be landfilled or downcycled. Using REPREVE instead of virgin nylon allows us to offset the use of crude oil, benzene, cyclohexane, and other harmful hydrocarbons that are involved in the production of virgin fiber. In short, using recycled nylon conserves energy and water and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. While we aim to reduce our use of virgin nylon in our products, recycled nylon only accounted for 4% of our nylon consumption last year.
We’re actively working with our suppliers to source more recycled nylon so we can incorporate it across our product lines. To date, nylons generated from pre-consumer waste material have held up well against our durability requirements, but we’d like to find an equally good source of post-consumer recycled nylon or yarns that blend both pre and post-consumer nylon.
SPANDEX/ELASTANE
We use Lycra to provide elasticity, strength, and form-fitting comfort. While spandex accounts for no more than 5% of the fiber used in our finished product, it represented 27% of the raw materials we procured last year. Like conventional nylon, spandex is derived from petroleum and has been important to the performance of our products. Unfortunately, it’s the most difficult material in our fiber mix to replace with a recycled alternative.
When it comes to synthetics, we’re primarily focused on converting virgin nylon and polyester to recycled alternatives. However, we’re also looking for functional, recycled spandex alternatives.

SOCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
We live and work in Northfield, Vermont. Our backyard is the perfect testing ground to make the finest Premium All Weather Performance Socks. We ski, snowboard, hike, bike and run in the most unforgiving climate in the lower 48. It is under these conditions that we design, test and manufacture our socks.
STILL MADE IN VERMONT, USA
After so many decades why do we still knit every pair of our socks here in Vermont? We don’t do it because it’s the easy thing to do—we do it because it’s the right thing to do. We do it because for us, it’s the only way to do it. There are faster and cheaper alternatives but nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.

Great feeling and tough socks.
This isn’y my first pair of Darn Tough Cooolmax socks. While only my second pair I got them because I enjoyed them so much. They feel nice on the foot and are supportive without being too restrictive. They help fill up volume in things like a hiking boot if you need that (I use them in barefoot Jim Green Boots) but not by a lot. If they had any downside, it is that I wish they were a tad bit thicker (higher weight) since they are intended to be a hiking sock. If they made a heavyweight version, I’d buy it tomorrow. Also, I wish they came in cool colors like the wool versions, but they don’t.So far there is no pilling, and they haven’t seemed to have stretched out much like cheap socks do. When it comes to that stretch, or lack thereof, that is something to keep in mind when sizing. If you are on the edge of size, go up. These socks run narrow. As someone with a 4E (double extra wide) foot I needed to go up since I was at the edge of sizing. That is their only quirk.Anyway, these are great for those who are allergic to wool! I hope they expand on the line.

Comfortable
Soft and very comfortable socks and not too tight. They are cooler than most socks so can wear in the summer too. I would highly recommend them.

slightly wet feet after all day walking
They are plushy and comfortable. With an attractive aesthetic. And for the most part avoided smelly feet. But they left my feet wet and smelling after I wore them all day long in Edinburgh. I would opt for the Darn Tough Men’s Light Hiker Micro Crew Lightweight with Cushion Sock (Style 1972). Those socks are AMAZING.

Super quality socks!
Recently I replaced my 7 year old hiking boots, after dozens of hikes all over the world, with a pair of the same boots, because they were so freaking good (Lowa). However over the last couple of years I had lost all my hiking socks and ended up using cheap “nice” socks instead, thin, but also synthetic. It started giving me problems when it was really hot, even with the older boots. Now with new boots, could it be the socks?I was originally looking for hiking socks that had Merino wool in them to wick away moisture and I am pretty sure I ended up clicking on these socks from somewhere where it said it was Merino wool. Read on the reviews that other people had experienced the same. However it isn’t, instead it is:37% Nylon, 34% Coolmax Polyester, 26% Acrylic, 2% Lycra Spandex, 1% Other fiberWhen I read that, I was a bit sceptical, but reading the label, “Darn Tough, made in the USA, Vermont, unconditionally guaranteed for life” and watching a video of these guys, well, I will give that a shot. The socks were tight, maybe a bit too tight I thought, but… they felt good, nice kinda-thick support where needed, but not too much.So I hiked the local mountain in California, San Jacinto, in 85 degrees 11AM. It was hot, my feet were hot, I could feel a few hot spots that were touching my new boots, but wanted to give it a real test. Many hours later, I remove the boots, ahhh, and I remove the socks. Warm feet for sure, but NO BLISTERS!Ordered 3 pairs more, but this time I got the one with Merino wool. A bit expensive, but after having tried them last weekend hiking up and down Grand Canyon with a big backpack in 100 degrees, I can only tell you, they freaking work really well! Not a single blister or even close. Get some yourself before your neighbor

Best socks ever
These are hands down the most comfortable I have ever worn.

It has been just over 8 years now that I have been wearing only Darn Tough Socks. I have several pairs and they do not have an easy life. So far I have gotten 20 replacement pairs under warranty and every time Darn Tough has lived up to their promise and it has been zero hassle and no cost. Also, the quality of the socks over the years has not faded, which is paying Darn Tough a big compliment as QC has went downhill (especially since covid) for most manufacturers out there. One thing to note would be that the socks that use Coolmax last longer than the ones that use Merino Wool if you are really, really abusing them. Both are terrific though. In summery, socks are top of the line comfort and durability and if/when they do fail the customer service is beyond great. A company and product worth supporting.
