Incredible Value and improving
Like amazon, who sets the standard for Mail order shopping and customer service. Emporiaâs devices and customer service set the standard for electrical energy monitoring systems. I dont believe I can give a higher compliment than that to either one. Anyone who doesnt believe amazon is the gold standard to which all other mail order need to strive for hasnt much experience with mail order. That said, this review is about emporiaâs devices which I use to watch and control my electrical usage at my business and house. Whether you are an electrical engineer (spaceflight controller) who was responsible for monitoring the energy usage on the space shuttle, or a homeowner who cares about their electrical usage, emporiaâs devices provide you with the insight you need to understand both the IN and OUT of electrical energy in your electrical systems. Emporia makes installation and set up as simple (and safe) as possible and monitors electrical energy usage (and/or generation) throughout your system. And is the most cost effective system available.. I would know, i built this system 20 years ago when i was a spaceflight controller in the MCC using current transformers, DATAC, and the basic programming in the Excel spreadsheet to collect and display the data. Im retired now and cant build what emporia offers for 1/10 the price. Whereas the information presented by Emporia software plenty sufficient for 99 percent of homeowners, (more than most want) emporiaâs data sampling far exceeds what the presently used so future features are merely software away. For those worried about the cost of uploading data amount and cost rest assured, it is almost too small for the router, or phone to measure at a few megabytes per month. Quality? Ive had it operating since April 2024 when i installed my solar and have had no problems and no failures. I have cut open one of the smartplugs and the electronics is typical of most electronic devices. The devices are just too cheap to worry about abuse and repair or insurance. Features? Well the present features and abilities used with there smartplugs far exceed other âhome monitoringâ systems and threaten industrial systems which cost tens of thousands. I learned in a management class once âyou cant manage what you dont know nothing aboutâ, and this emporia system enables you to Know what you are trying to manage. Electrical energy.. which is only going to increase in cost.

Excellent energy monitor
Installed this to identify power loads in my house. With this you can monitor individual circuits to see your consumption within your house which is important to understand what is driving your overall consumption. I was surprised to find that what I thought might be large consumers were actually very efficient. The Installation is easy however the CT that clamp around the wires of the breakers are bulky and can be tight to install. Otherwise the system is very easy to install and configure.

Can be tight fit on the circuit breaker
Works great give me great insight on my home power use and allowed me to determine which circuit breaker went to which room. The clamps are a bit large and can be a tight squeeze breakers are ontop of each other. What i did was rather than use all of them i hooked up like Five for about a week and than more them around to other breakers which should be plenty of time to get an idea of wattage/use and locating a energy vampire. The app is great tells you the wattage and records history so you can see when for example the water heater kicked on and for how long. You can also add your power rate and rather than telling you the wattage it can tell you the Sec/Minute/Hour/Month cost and it can be setup to mirror your billing cycle.Your power company counts this as an energy monitor so you will get an rebate. It can be intimidating hooking it up so please if you are unsure contact an electrician otherwise if you ever replaced a breaker before this will be an easy setup.

Awesome product
My brother installed this at his house and loved it. After seeing his system in action, I bought one for my house. After installing mine, I liked it so much a purchased a second system as I have two independent breaker panels and wanted better monitoring of my whole house electricity use. Do you need to actually see the energy distribution of you home circuits? Probably not. But . . . is it reassuring when away from home to know that your lift pump, well pump, outdoor hot tub, furnace, freezer, refrigerator, etc. are cycling as expected? Most definitely! Installation was easy enough. You need to fully understand the breaker panel and risks involved when working close to hazardous electrical wires. If you’ve ever added or replaced circuit breakers on your own, the installation is straight forward. The system monitors the two mains coming from the power company and up to 16 individual circuits in the breaker panel. You can monitor a 220v “dual” breaker using two of the 16 sensors (one on each “hot” wire to each half of the breaker), or you can use a single sensor on one side of the breaker and “double” the usage measurement automatically in the app. For an electric HW heater, this makes total sense as the usage is identical for both sides of the breaker. Using only one sensor in this case frees up a sensor to use elsewhere.I bought a 16 sensor and an 8 sensor system. The base station for each is the same, so I can always order another 8 sensors to maximize monitoring. For me, I really only care about the big energy appliances and I do not monitor most of my 15 amp circuits (lighting, stereo/TV etc.) The app automatically sums all circuits per breaker panel and includes the “balance” of non-monitored use as a separate line entry. I can tell how much electricity the entire panel used any given second, hour, day, week, month, and the app sorts usage from highest to lowest.Lastly, I purchased a 4 pack of their “smart plugs” to dial in usage of a few small appliances that are not on an isolated/single breaker. They nest seamlessly into the app and add additional monitoring that I find useful. I never knew how much I would appreciate having this information available at any time and from anywhere on the planet. I doubt I will ever save money using this product, but I will forever enjoy the ability to monitor and measure the electricity usage of my home.

Los parámetros de voltaje y corriente solo pueden visualizarse en la app, pero cuando descargas el excel solo te muestra kwh

I have solar panels on the house and before installing this all I could see was a report on current production and summaries of daily and monthly production. The Emporia lets me monitor the exact production every second and shows how much energy is being produced, how much energy the house is currently using and how much energy is being imported from or exported to the grid. You can also get daily reports so I can calculate the costs and decide when to switch rates here in Alberta. The Emporia comes eith 16 clamps to monitor circuit breakers. I’m using 2 to measure incoming solar while the other 14 can be used to monitor individual breakers so I can monitor usage for the dryer, AC, stove, etc. Any breakers without clamps on them appear under other so you can see what’s being used at any moment. If you have solar you need one of these.

This thing works awesome. Highly accurate and very configurable.

Instructions to flash this with espHome are available. You’ll need a USB interface and prongs to short some pins on the board. Sounds a bit hard but it’s pretty simple and very well documented.Once flashed, it’s very easy to integrate into home assistant. Works perfectly so far. Good bundle considering the 16 + 2 sensors. Got mine used for an even cheaper deal and it worked perfectly.Never even booted the stock firmware so no idea how the original product works nor how secure it is. I wouldn’t trust the original firmware on my network, let alone giving it access to internet.
