WHY CARBON FIBER – KastKing Zephyr Bait Finesse System baitcasting reels use an extensive array of unique carbon fiber materials. Carbon fiber is lighter than aluminum and stronger than steel for its weight. KastKing built Zephyr casting reels with carbon fiber frames and side plates and a carbon disc drag for 10 Lbs. of smooth drag with light finesse fishing lines. Zephyr takes your Bait Finesse game to a whole new level!
SMOOTHNESS WHERE IT COUNTS – Inside Zephyr’s carbon shell is 6+1 double shielded stainless steel ball bearings with super free-spooling spool bearings that allow the farthest casts with the lightest baits. Precision machined T7075 hardened aluminum alloy main gears and brass pinion gears, nickel plated brass worm shaft, and an 8-magnet braking system get the work done easily and without effort.
MORE FEATURES – To save even more weight without sacrificing strength KastKing chose advanced aluminum alloys for the laser engraved anodized shallow spool, main shaft, main gear, black anodized handle with EVA knob, and tension knob. And to add more excitement to Bait Finesse catches, there’s a drag clicker for the Zephyr.

Excellent budget BFS
I’m a crappie fisherman who got into bait casting last year and bought a couple higher end combo’s. Wasn’t very impressed with them but bumped into the idea of using a BFS caster for crappie. I have several ultra light setups but the idea of not having to flip a bail and smoothing out the process appealed to me. So the KastKing BFS immediately comes up with it’s attractive price and reputation. I decided to take a chance for science.Right out of the box it feels lightweight, grips are /meh and it’s obviously not high precision equipment. But the more I looked at it the happier I was with it. I paired it with a Carbonlite 2.0, 6 lbs mono just to keep it close to what I normally use for comparisons. Felt great in my hand. Threw on a casting plug and went to the yard. Very easy to dial in, I slowly started getting used to it and increasing distance. Within about 10 minutes I was matching some of my longer casts records across the yard. Decided to give it a really hard throw – it cleared my yard, the neighbors yard the cleared the top of the far tree (2 stories) for a new casting record. Yeah, it’ll do.Spent all day at the lake with it, typical bait caster issues like don’t cast into heavy wind or dang if I didn’t hit a tree and caused some backlash. But they all cleared out easily and I’m pretty excited using it. I swapped out to some really light jigs and reached really good cast distances. Very happy with the setup. For science I decided to swap out default bearings with the bearing kit from eBay (ceramics). I’ve only did yard casts but it’s an obvious upgrade in casting distance and has added a good chunk of yards to the throws. So my take after several hours of testing is that this reel earned its rep. Adding ceramic bearings will increase the cost of the reel by $25 or so (more if you don’t have the tool) but it didn’t need them for my purposes. I can’t speak to the reels longevity, but I think it’ll last as long as most and is less than half the cost. If you’re interested in BFS this is a good entry point.

Great reel
Okay first I have read all the reviews. I have stage 4 cancer and take a few drugs so Iâm not too steady. Iâm letting you folks know this because using reels like this are hard for me to use. Okay now the reel. I only had the money to purchase one. I took it out of the box and looked it over. Very nice looking. I only use Berkeley fire line. Period!! Filled the reel with 14 pound line. I put it on a 7 foot ugly stick. I went fishing. People said that you could not use a small lure so I picked a small bass pro 2 3/4â square bill. Small lure. I cast it the first time and I had a birds nest. I adjusted the button on the left side to to half way. I adjusted the button on the right side till you could hit the release button and it dropped to the floor and stopped. I cast it again. And it cast good but still a little backlash. I turned the button on the right side a little bit more and tried it again. Man it cast so sweet. I cast it about 100 times and never had a problem again except when I hit a tree over my head that I didnât see. Lol. A week later I went fishing again and I wore this reel with that same crank bait and never had a single back lash. I truly love this reel. Itâs so smooth after you set it up correctly. It takes time to get it correct. Take your time and play with it till you get it correct. Itâs really worth the effort. All I can say is that when I get some more money Iâm purchasing another one. Also donât throw it so hard. I just swing it and it just cast so smooth. I love this reel

Good for the price
I got this to see if the bfs thing was for meâ¦It is. This reel is lasting a lot longer than expected. Thousands of casts, too many fish to count, and still works well enough. Itâs getting a little rough now but still has some life. Drag is surprisingly smooth. If I only fished once every few weeks, I would buy another when this one is toast but I fish a LOT so I will be getting the Curado bfs next. I did have the issue of the line going between the frame and spool a few times when I first got it but once I got used to how this thing casts, that issue went away.

Great fishing reel.
This is my first Kastking fishing reel and I really like it. It casts smooth and far. It’s easy to cast and works great.

Great BFS reel
Ultra light weight reel, casts light lures pretty decent, but not as good as the kestrel. Paired with the right rod, you can get great distance with light lures.

Lives up to the hype
I was somewhat skeptical about this reel, but I have to say that after using it, i am sold. The overall construction does seem a but cheap with most shell parts made of plastic but it’s got it where it counts. Smooth reeling, smooth casting. It definitely has the ability to give you a wicked backlash if you don’t thumb it properly, but if set up correctly, it’s definitely forgiving. I spooled it up with Yozuri 10lb braid which is good stuff. As for the rod, I’m using a 7’6″ med action lite Okuma rod. It does not like to be aggressively slung unless you brake it all the way down, which is where I left it on a 1/4oz bait. This just fits my style. Overall, it’s a great buy for the money.

Not a bad reel at all
Some people like a crap on kastking, but this is a fun reel. Great for beginner BFS enthusiasts.

Nice cheap bfs reel

Light lines still gets caught in between spool as there is a gap in the design. Gets the job done. Smooth reeling and cast far.

Item is severely over-priced. You can do much better buying a $50 dollar reel than this one. Had issues with the adjustments such as the tensioner and the magnetic bearings.
