A cool concept. Mine needed some modifications to get the light to work consistently.
When I first unboxed this item, initial impressions were good. I pumped it up, removed the battery guard, and the ball lit up right away just by tossing it in the air and catching it. The light comes on and stays on for about a minute, then shuts off automatically. How this lights up is there is a small chamber on top of the ball which has a light in it, and then a plug on top of the chamber to hold the light in. To help you change the batteries, the ball comes with a tool that can be used to remove the plug, and then you can remove the light and change the batteries which are in the light. One of the attached photos shows the light removed. The ball comes with an extra set of batteries as well, which is good. The light seemed good and reliable at first, but when I started bouncing the ball off the floor the light began flickering and would shut off completely at times. I removed the light and found that whenever you would squeeze the sides of the light assembly, the contact at the top of the battery case would lose contact with the top battery, and this is what was causing the light to shut off. I was able to remedy this issue by taking the batteries out of the light, and bending the battery contact down. I’ve attached an image of the battery contact that I bent, for reference. All in all, it seems like a good product – but I took a star off because for $35 I think you should get a product that doesn’t need modifications to work.

The sun us setting earlier but it’s not stopping me and the kids
This thing is actually pretty bright and has the weight and feel of a real volleyball. It’s been a lot of fun on the east coast where the sun is setting earlier despite my kid’s intent to stay out and play. I like that I can see/track the ball from the kitchen outside and have enjoyed using it myself.Great gift idea for the athlete that wants to extend the play hours or are looking for a bit of novelty.

Cool Fun Idea
This is a cool idea that lights up well and is fun to use for some late evening volleyball games. It is not a regulation beach volleyball size or weight for adults. It is close to a smaller size 4 or 5 volleyball that is for younger players. The texture is nowhere near a normal feel, so not really a great option for a practice ball â but that is not the point of something like this. This ball is a great design for some fun casual games, especially night games. The battery and LED is a simple mechanism that is easy to replace, but the plug is designed in such a way that it does not come out easily. However replacing the batteries (3 small button style batteries , and 3 replacements are included) is fairly easy to do with the included metal spade-like tool. The LED is attached to the battery stack and lights up on contact, turning off after 5-10 seconds. Plenty of time to keep it lit during a typical volley during a game.Wonderful fun idea for casual games.

The stitching is inconsistent
Overall for light use it will probably hold up but the stitching is inconsistent and will probably be the first to go for this ball, time will tell how well it holds up to my two kids playing with it outside
