Got this for my new E-bike.
This is perfect to add some safety to any bike, but specially if you have a pricey E-bike! Easy to out on and it works fine. Just make sure you register it online just in case you lose that key, otherwise youâre screwed because they just give you 1 key.

Security for your wheels
Works as described. Very easy to install although tightening to the correct torque using the included key can be a little difficult. It is much lighter than my stock SLX hubs QR skewers. There are reviews that claim these skewers can be compromised by using a Gator wrench. I believe the newer updated models like the one I’m using have circumvented that problem by adding washers. All in all, this is for those who want added security upgrade from those easy to open quick release skewers and the generic nut/bolted ones. Be mindful that the kit only comes wih ONE key so do take care not to lose it if you are not planning to buy a spare.I am using these on a 26″ cross country mountain bike.

Fairly good security
I bought these knowing that there are ways of defeating them, but I liked the price and also their convenience. It is unlikely that someone will be able to remove these easily without the key, but a determined crook will not stop at anything that you use. The key has a nice handle, which while small (maybe two inches long), also pivots, so you can tighten these Pinheads appropriately. Other products might make it harder for a thief to remove,. but lack the capability of getting them tight enough to ride without worrying about them falling off. This set does not include a Pinhead to hold the seat in place, but a really tight fit is needed to keep your seat post from being pushed into the frame and so a Pinhead for your seat post would probably work well…much better than other products that don’t allow heavy torque.I also like the clean look of this product; if you are not familiar with it, you would not even notice them. They do come with two fittings that would make it hard for someone to fit a special wrench head over the Pinhead to defeat this product and while these aren’t perfect, these fittings do make the whole thing fairly secure. I don’t want to make it too obvious how to defeat this product, so I won’t mention the tool that will do so.It is very easy to install the Pinheads in both front and back; shouldn’t take you more than a couple of minutes, plus the instructions and installation diagrams are clear, even though it is obvious how they are installed. For the price and convenience, I rate this four stars.

maybe more trouble than it’s worth?
I can see that for some, this is excellent, but for me, it may add too much work. My bike fits nicely in my car when the front tire is off, I have made it a habit to leave my bike in my car when ever I’m not riding it…I also can chain my front tire to the rest of my bike when I lock it. The ‘key’ is similar to a quick release, but not as fast, plus you have to keep track of where you put the key. If I didn’t remove my tire as often as I do, this would be perfect. the added security is very nice and I ended up preferring the seat skewer to match. I’m only talking about an extra 15 to 30 seconds to remove the tire, so it’s not to big of a deal. Not to mention a much better alternative to replacing my rim, you’re tube, etc. A spare key is a must though. Luckily they are super ready to order. All in all, very good product, especially if security is a concern!

Definitely worth the money.
I was on a budget, so after all the money I spent on my first bicycle, helmet, ulock, lights, it was hard for me to spend $46 on wheel locks when a chain would be ~$20. But in hindsight, these have definitely been worth the money. The people at my local bike shop all use these, and recommended them to me. The locks were easy to install, and I liked the build quality of the key- very smooth turning, very solid. The key’s small, and easy to keep with my bike stuff. The peace of mind and ease this system gives made the sale for me, and I’ve been happy with it since. Your alternatives are to either take your wheel off and lock it with your Ulock, or use a cable, and I’m perfectly satisfied with the choice I made. Using a cable to secure the wheels is less secure; most are simple to cut, something worrisome when a rear wheel + sprocket can be $150 and up. Using pinheads also voids the need to carry the weight of a chain or a second ulock. The other alternative is to take the front wheel off and lock it with the frame and ulock- frankly, the price of the pinheads is well worth not having to do that every time I lock up.I’d definitely recommend this to anyone I know, and thus they get all 5 stars from me.

Buy these if you live in SF
It’s hard to put a review on peace of mind but these skewers work well and keep me from worrying too much about my bike being locked outdoors here in San Francisco. I went to the LBS and they are double the cost compared to Amazon so I’m glad I purchased here. Installation was super easy, and they look better than the quick release skewers that were on my bike (which were getting a little rusty and not really “quick” releases anymore).I wish the key was smaller, since you have to carry it with you in order to take the wheels off should you have a flat. I don’t need the bottle opener and wish I could take that off and just have the key. The opener does help with leverage though so getting the lock nut off is easy but still just a little unnecessary. If you’re using these on your commuter it may not be an issue but it takes up a bit more room and weight in my jersey pocket. Oh well, the only con and it doesn’t detract from the purpose of the skewers.

I bought the Pinhead security kit for my bicycle. You replace the skewers (axles), and the seat clamp, and the steering head nut. It means that the wheels and saddle cannot be removed by using bare hands on quick-release levers. To get the wheels out you will need the supplied key. Think of it like a security nut for your car wheels. It is the same idea. The head end of the axle is smoothly domed on the outside with little teeth on the inside. The nut end of the axle then has the 3 specially positioned dimples which fit exactly in the supplied tool. Don’t lose the tool. If you give your bike to a dealer to be serviced, just as with your car, you will have to lend them the unique key to get wheels or saddle or steering off.I don’t have particularly expensive wheels, but I didn’t want to leave the bike with wheels secured by quick-release skewers. Quick-release, the clue is in the name. The pinheads are elegant, clean and smooth. A threaded portion of the axle does protrude, but there is a plastic cover provided. This keeps your threads clean and protects them from the elements. It also protects you and your clothing from the protruding parts. This system is more secure than some other systems. I have another set with a 5 sided hex key (yes, I know that “hex” means 6). On that system ALL the models have the same 5 sided key. With pinheads, each one is different. Which is why I say, don’t lose your key.The pinheads remain tight for months.Recommended if quick-release leaves you nervous.
