Great backup power source
I have 2 portable solar kits and both function similarly except this one comes with a cord and various adaptor plugs to power common items. The only issues with the cord and adaptors are 1) I wish there was some way to store the adaptors with the panels like if they clipped onto the panels or even simpler if the existing clip had a hole and you could use one of the 4 carabiners to keep them together.Instead I plant to toss the cable and adaptors in my bucket of random cords and forget about them. Otherwise, they’ll just get lost. And that gets me to how I plan to use this. I don’t think it’s possible to run many small appliances directly from this panel. If your appliance doesn’t have batteries, I think these cords and adaptors are not going to work. The appliance probably draws too much power. The better solution is to use the panel to charge a backup battery and then disconnect the panels and plug your device into the backup battery. Then you can toss this panel on your dashboard and run a USB cable to the backup battery, go about your day, come back to the car, unplug and then charge your device using the backup battery. That will work great.I often use these when I’m going to the beach all day. I bring 4 things: 1) this panel, 2) a USB cord (this panel accepts standard USB and USB C as outputs), 3) a backup battery, and 4) your device. Usually my backup battery is charged to start the day but as the day goes on, my wife or kids need a little extra juice and we top off powering the devices from the battery. When the battery starts getting low, I hang the solar panels from the palapa using the carabiners or lay it flat on my chair or towel and plug the battery into the panels. This extends a day in the sun.

Very good power to size and weight ratio
This is a powerful panel system that appears to be well made, especially for the price. I really like how compact it is for the power it can generate. These panels are not much larger than 22w panels, so they should fit almost everywhere the smaller panels fit, but I like having the 30W panels since phones and tablets now days are power hogs with large batteries. Also, I run a lot of devices such as night vision that use rechargeable batteries, so the 30w panels let me charge more batteries, and do so faster, than the 22w, but with very little penalty in weight and packability. I also feel like larger panels are very desirable when light conditions are suboptimal. The dual USB outlets are nice so that you can plug various devices directly into them. You don’t have to deal with the loss in efficiency from charging a power bank and then charging your device. The fabric material on the outside is nice, and the panels themselves are waterproof. There are a number of various adapters included, as well as reasonably sized carabiners to secure the panel how you wish. NOTE that the outlets are not waterproof. And that’s really the only gripe I have about these panels. In my opinion, portable panels this size should at least be water resistant. How much more would it have cost to put some kind of rubber stopper on the outlets so they could be sealed when not in use? Even if they are not exposed directly to rain, portable panels like these are subject to splashing while on watercraft, leaks from liquids kept near them in a pack, or moisture intrusion into a pack.

Charged my phone and iPad quickly in direct sunlight
I tested this solar charger by using it to recharge my cellphone and iPad Air 2024. When placed in direct sunlight, it charged my phone at a rate of about 20% per hour. While I didn’t take note of the charging rate when used with my iPad, it still seemed to charge at a respectible rate. That was in full sun. However, when I tried to use it to charge my cell phone on a cloudy day, it barely delivered any charge. Although I expected it would not perform as well on a cloudy day, it perform much more poorly than I expected. In summary, as long as you don’t expect it perform well on a cloudy day, I do recommend this product. I would be a great backup option for an emergency situation where commercial power isn’t available, such as after a hurricane. It would also be great for taking on a camping trip. However, based upon the performance on a cloudy day, I don’t expect it would perform well in a wooded area. But if you can get to a clearing, it should work well (again in direct sunlight).

Power you can take with you (if it’s sunny)
This is a lightweight folding solar panel that folds into quite a small package (although there is no carrying case.) The attached interface box provides USB-C, USB-A, and direct 18v solar output. It sounds like these can all be used at the same time, but I tested only one at a time. This comes with 4 carabiner hooks to attach the folding panels when hanging in the sun (there are mounting holes in the corners of both top and bottom panels.) I’ve found that having 2 at the top and letting it hang has worked for me.I tested the USB-A and USB-C ports, and both worked as expected, providing a high power (18 watt) charge – although I was testing with overcast skies and so I was only occasionally getting full power. I wasn’t able to try the direct solar panel (18v) output to charge a Takki 120W portable power station because I didn’t have the right adapter, even though the panel comes with 10 different DC coaxial connectors.I think I’ll keep this solar panel for portable use, since it folds into a reasonably small package. Since it isn’t waterproof, you sadly can’t leave it outside in all weather. Supporting both standard USB interface and direct DC output, it is useful for charging most modern devices, and (with the right adapters) can charge portable power supplies that work with solar input. In the meantime, I’ll look for the right adapter to let me use this solar panel with the small Takki power station.Actual rating: 4.8 (because I can’t leave it out in the rain)
