Great product from inventor, solves a problem you kinda don’t know you have.
I fish in the river and holding the rod while tying a fly was a problem. yeah I tucked it into my vest and got the job done, but I was always getting the rod caught on my vest when trying to remove it. This unique patented invention from an New Zealand is amazing. Good on Ya! I love it, simply slide it over your rod and let the rod sit on your side/vest or your hip. Pin it anywhere or attach it to a clip. Lot’s of options. There are lot’s of fake copies out there, support the original inventor, not the copy cats.

Fishing Rod Holder
Purchased this as part of a gift for my brother. He absolutely loves this and finds that it is very helpful when he’s fly fishing some of the best trout streams in the US with his buddies. I am glad he’s happy and this is a great product. I would highly recommend.

Works! Great rod retainer.
Great little product. Used two on a (Simms) hip pack and works great to hold rod in place (when landing a fish/tying knots). Note, pic shows just a rod but tested with reel as well and holds. Will have to test for saltwater though. Could be a little more durable on the clip and “beefier”. Otherwise great product.

Pricey but works
I have a 9ft 7wt rod and this clip holds it nicely. When I first got it, I was surprised by how short the holder and string actually pulls away from the clip. It’s only about 3-4 inches of cord that extends. I don’t know why I was thinking it had a lot more cord spooled up but it makes sense when I clipped it on my fishing vest why there’s only a couple inches. You don’t want your rod flailing all over the place when you have it in the clip. The last thing a fly fisherman needs is more line added to the equation when trying to tie on a fly or unhook a fish. Anyway, just wanted to write that in case you’re thinking there’s a lot of cord spooled up in the clip.It holds my rod great and does give you a free hand when you need it. The pin used to clip it on your vest may “seem” cheap but I’ve had no problems with it and it’s actually pretty sturdy. If a mean trout came up to you and was ticked that you caught him, he could probably pull your clip off your vest or shirt with a hearty tug but for normal situations, it’s going to stay in place.Quality gets 5 stars, but sadly, I had to take away a star because of the price. Like another gentleman said, fly fishing gadgets get the price hike for some reason. There’s no reason a device like this should cost over $25. I could see maybe, and that’s a big maybe, $15 but for what amounts to a small piece of rolled anodized aluminum, some foam, and a retractable key chain, there’s no reason for the $25+ price tag. I was still a sucker and bought it, and I’m glad I did but it hurt to pay that much for such a simple device. Yeah, I get it, no failures after 50,000 pulls or whatever and that’s good it gets that mileage, but they should add some more features for that price. Maybe let it extend a few feet when needed and have a temp gauge on it so we could check the water temp. Maybe an LED flashlight or something, maybe a nail knot tying doohickey, perhaps some line cutters (also overpriced in the fly fishing world). Ok, I’m done complaining about the price.Overall, good product. Should last a long time and it performs its intended function very well.

Hands Free on the Creek
I purchased this for trout fishing in Potter Co., PA where I use an 11â spinning rod and wanted something to be hands free while tying hooks, etc. This thing exceeded my expectations. It held my rod tight in different conditions and worked as it was designed. I purchased anther for my son for our trip this upcoming spring.

Perfectly designed for the fisherman.
This rod holder wasnât exactly what I thought it would be or should be but it works perfect….apparently the designers at smith creek know a bit more than I do about making great products. First, the foam seemed way to small for my rod (9â 5wt) but it ended up fitting nice and tight. My rod never once fell out nor was it difficult to intentionally remove. Second, the zinger only extends 3â which didnât seem like enough but ended up being the perfect length to pull out to easily attach my rod but short enough to keep my rod securely in tight to my sling pack while swapping out flies. Third, the zinger has a pretty weak looking âsafety pinâ connection that made me skeptical it would hold. To my surprise, it prrformed perfectly and while I originally felt like it shouldâve been a standard clip, the safety pin style allowed me to mount it in a more optimal location on my sling pack (just below the âworkbenchâ pocket). Even their foresight to put two holes in the aluminum ended up being a benefit so I could reorient the clip with the zinger to better work with my pack. It is obvious that the folks at smith creek are real fishermen and have designed this rod holder to work even better than expected. An excellent and invaluable product that I will now never fish without!!

Handy stuff.
Went out with it already on 5 fishing trips. It turned out to be very convenient. Recommended

Zinger pin is bad
I was on a hill/cliff taking shelter from the rain on top of the rivers bank when I attached the rod to my holder to tie up some new tippet. Keep in mind this is my first time ever using this device and at first I loved it. It worked really conveniently. BUT.. Next thing you know, the pin bent too much and my rod and reel goes launching down the side of the bank. I would have preferred a different hookup method rather than a pin clip ð§·. Ruined my day after getting that nasty Georgia clay all in my rig.

Very well made piece of kit. Helps a lot for keeping your rod out of the water/dirt when landing a fish or rigging up a new leader or fly

This rod clip is exactly what I have been looking for. Pin the clip to your fishing vest or jacket and it securely holds your fly rod while you re tie flies, leaders or unhook a fish. It provides a third hand to hold your rod out of the water. Excellent investment.

The quality of this item is five star. Ease of attachment and strength of holding strength is very good. Clip on to vest could be a bit bigger but is adequate.
