Expensive, but money very well spent
We got the 7 gallon one, fire engine red, for about half price via Amazon warehouse. I like it so much I would pay full price now without any hesitation. This is heavy gauge steel with a beautiful and very durable enamel finish. It looks great, it’s built like a tank. The pedal assembly is well engineered and easy to use. The lid is heavy which is really nice because it rests on a rubber gasket and seals off odors really well. The cat can’t get in, bugs can’t get in.It seems insane to spend this much for a trash can, but this thing is going to probably last 20 years and give us beauty and functionality 20 or 30 times a day. Considering what people pay for a nice looking kitchen, appliances and tools, this is not too much money.Plus you are supporting one of the last manufacturers making household goods in the USA. It’s a good cause.

It truly is worth the cost!
**UpdateThis garbage can is still going strong almost 5 years later and has had no problems with daily, heavy use. We still consider it to be one of the best Amazon purchases for our family.Original review: My wife was very skeptical about the cost and size (24 gal in the white color with the hard plastic liner) of this garbage can. Now she couldn’t be happier with this purchase, this might be one of the best purchases we’ve ever made on Amazon (I know its a garbage can but hey hear me out). I work in healthcare and we have a few of these garbage cans around. The 30 gallon garbage bags fit great, the best part is the metal retaining brackets that hold the bag in place so you don’t have to worry about the bag falling in anymore. The bag easily pulls out for replacement. The lid also has a seal to contain unwanted smells. We have a family of 6 and this has been a game changer on how many times we needed to take the trash out (our 13 gallon garbage can would be full within 2 days, now with this one, its only once a week). Every time my wife uses this garbage can she has a smile on her face (happy garbage can, happy life!?!??? or something like that)

Attractive and functional
This is a lovely step-on garbage can, and I’m delighted that it is rather unusual. The metal construction is sturdy and lustrous; the plastic inner bin fits nicely. The size and shape are unconventional in that it is slightly smaller than other kitchen garbage cans, but it’s easy to fit the garbage liner bag in the bin and not have anything hanging out.I heartily recommend this beauty.

Hip for squares
UPDATE: After a couple years, one of my cans no longer closes all the way. I cannot for the life of me figure out why.I bought a pair of these for my kitchen, one for trash, one for recycling. These were for a small space that would not work with counter depth cans and I thought most cans with the alternate hinge placement were too curved to look right side-by-side. I also wanted them in white, not stainless. That left me with few choices until I stumbled upon these commercial models. They are square bottomed, so they look really right next to each other. Taking up just one square foot each, these are a good use of space – other 12-gallon cans are curved or tapered, wasting space. And, when you are already spending $100+ for a darned trash can, it makes sense to buy these commercial models, which are made in the USA and will surely outlive any other trash can. I don’t expect to be purchasing another trash can as long as I live.As for performance, the retension bands hold a standard kitchen trash bag securely. The rigid plastic lioner lacks handles, however, which I found annoying for the can I am using for recycling, since I don’t use a bag and instead pick up the liner to take it out to the yard to dump in my recycling bin. If you don’t need a liner at all, you can save with the one without it, but I do not suggest going without it as your bags will tear and get studk. One feature these lack are the struts found in Simple Human cans (such as these that I considered) that allow the lids to fall slowly. These Rubbermaid ones will slam, although with the rubber gasket, they don’t slam too hard. Also, the plastic liner inside lacks handles. Although these are very solid cans, the sonstruction could be a little better – the feet are not exactly level so one of mine wobbles a tiny bit, although that can be adjusted with a pare of vise grips. The weight on these is not overwhelming, but they are probably heavy and stout enough to resist dogs and kids.As the other review notes, the bottom of this can is not fully sealed, but a little silicon caulk will fix that.

It is the right size
This is a nice, clean-looking kitchen trash can. It does say it’s 12″ x 16″ in the listing title, which is incorrect, but the size is 12 gallons, which is standard for a kitchen trash can; tall kitchen garbage bags made by Glad and Hefty hold 13 gallons and are the correct fit for this can.I am glad I ordered the one with the plastic liner, which also has the retainer bands. I tried putting a bag over the retainer bands, but some of the bag showed when the lid was closed, and it was just kind of awkward. Maybe I didn’t do it correctly. For me, it works perfectly to ignore the retainers and simply fit the drawstring top of the trash bag around the plastic liner, and nothing shows.I appreciate that the hinge opens the top in a way that makes it possible to put the back of the can right up against the wall without the lid hitting the wall when you open it.I like it, and I would buy it again — but I probably won’t ever have to.

Good product but the closing is noisy.

Does the job, and looks nicer than a plastic garbage can, but it was quite expensive. The only reason I paid that much is because it’s impossible to find a garbage can as large as this that isn’t an outdoor container.
