One of the best, easiest to use, beginner friendly auto curlers I’ve ever used.
Note that there are 2 size variations in the listing: 25 mm (0.98 inch) and 32 mm (1.26 inches). Iâm reviewing the 25 mm (0.98 inch size). The smaller 25 mm (0.98 inch) is going to give tighter curls and is good for those of us who want tighter curls or have hair that doesnât hold a curl well. The larger 32 mm (1.26 size) is for looser curls, waves or longer hair. You donât get both variations and it canât interchange or change the sizes, so pick the size that you think will work best for your hair length, type and the curls or waves you want.Iâve used several different auto curlers, and this is one of the easier ones to use for use and for not causing tangles or getting hair stuck in it, as Iâll explain below. I got a better result with this one curl wise and ease of use wise than I have gotten from most auto curlers of this style. Itâs lighter, easier to use and more beginner friendly than some other auto curlers Iâve used. Most of them are just okay, difficult to use or I donât really like using, this is one of the few I really liked using and would highly recommend. My all time favorite auto curler is an older discontinued Remington auto curler the Curl Revolution. This one is a close second, even though the style is very different, itâs just as easy to use and gives the same consistently good curls even if your technique isnât always perfect and it doesnât tangle or cause stuck hair.Compared to similar curlers this one is easier to use, tangles less, gives no stuck hair and gives good curls even if you donât get it perfect in the wrapping. I noticed at first that not all wraps looked perfect like if you hand wrapped a curling wand or used a curling iron. Even with the imperfect looking wraps, that I thought wouldnât work as well or be as consistent, I got really good curls, all over my head. They were consistently good with this one, and that doesnât always happen for me. I didnât get each curl perfectly wrapped, but still got very good consistently nice curls. But you will need to practice using it and learn proper hair placement or you wonât get good curls. If your hair is chin length or above, it may be a bit difficult to use. If your hair is between shoulder and chin length, itâs usable and is going to be easier to use than some versions of similar curlers, because this doesnât have the clear guard cup some do that get in the way if your hair is shorter. Itâs going to work best with hair shoulder length and longer. This is a corded device (not rechargeable) and it has a long cord that isnât too short and plugs into a standard electrical plug in. It does have an automatic shut off feature. The cord has a 360 swivel end where it attaches to the curler base that makes it easy to use when curling your hair, the cord moves and doesnât get in the wayIt has 3 different temperature settings in both C & F. Use the lowest one you can to get the best curl, and be sure to use heat protectant before use. The curling barrel is ceramic, not metal so it is going to be gentler, but the curl may not hold as long as a metal barrel. I didnât see an ionic feature mentioned for smoothing, so I donât think it has one. The temperature button adjustment is a different button from the on off button. You press it until the light shows next to the temperature you want. The light is a little small and hard to read I found compared to some. I could see it but it could have been a little easier to see.Heat settings:1) 210C = 410F (high)2) 190C = 374F (medium)3) 170 C = 338F (low)It has a standard on and off button. I did have to hold it for a moment to get it to turn on. It does It does take a few minutes (about 2 or less) to warm up but isnât overly slow to warm up. It will beep when itâs up to the proper temperature. You can curl right or left (toward or away from your face) or rotate curls (curl one right, the next one left), by rotating the direction (left, right) switch, itâs a full toggle switch for the rotation direction vs two directional button, thereâs only one rotation button, but you set the direction with the toggle switch. The area that rotates is the center not the entire device or the outer âpetal prongs.â I think this is easier to use than versions that rotate in either direction on the button, I was able to keep my curls (on each side of my head) in the same direction. I did curl away from my face on either side of my head. How well this works will depend a lot on your technique and your hair length. There is a learning curve to using hair curlers like this, it will take some practice and getting use to. Iâd suggest watching the video in the listing as it shows how to use it.If your hair is chin length or much above shoulder length, this style of curler is going to be harder for you to use than it will be for someone with shoulder length or longer hair. The reason is that the hair placement is important and itâs easier to place correctly with longer vs shorter hair. This one, however, is easier to use on shoulder length (but not chin length, thatâs a bit too short for it) hair than some others that have a plastic cup or guard (often clear see through) around it. Iâd avoid versions (this one doesnât have it) with that style (clear guard cup over the center). Iâve tried several like it and they are harder to use and you need hair at least mid back length below the shoulders. The reason is that the ones with this cup (this doesnât have it) guard over the center, you have to literally drop your hair down into the center and get it into the cup vs this open style. You canât place your hair with that style or slide it up like you can with this one, you have to drop it in due to the guard. They are similar in style, but this one is open without the (usually clear) cup guard. If youâve used and struggled with a version with a clear cup guard over the center, this open style (with no clear cup guard) is a lot easier to use, especially if your hair isnât super long. Curlers such as the Conair Curl Secret have this cup and it makes it much harder to get shorter hair placed properly. But be careful and donât touch the center with your fingers as itâs very hot.If your hair is shorter especially, you wonât be able to get as good a curl higher up near the roots. Even if your hair is longer, this doesnât curl as high up as some curlers near the roots due to the style. Itâs not going to be as noticeable on longer hair, but on shorter hair you may notice it more.Placement of your hair is key to this working well or not at all. Hair length is important, but where you place your hair when you start the curl process is the key. If youâve used other hair curler auto curlers in the past they can work differently and have different areas of placement than this one. For example, the Kiss Instawave, on that one you did place your hair in the outer âpetalsâ to let it wrap. On this one, if you do that it wonât work well. You donât put your hair in the outer âpetalâ guards with this one.Hair placement with this style is closer to curlers like the Chi Lava curler (which is much pricier and much heavier than this one) (you could look up videos of the Chi Lava curler and the placement is similar even though the devices look different). You donât place the ends of your hair in first, you place higher up toward the roots in the device in the center (not the outer petal prongs, the very center in the U shaped groove). I found sliding it upward toward my roots was easier on some areas than placing the hair in it at the roots was. You may want to try both ways, but the key is to start with the hair placed close to the roots, either placed there or slid up from a lower area of the hair. Then you pull the strand of hair a bit downward into the U shaped groove in the center and start the rotation by pressing the button. You need the hair securely in the center of the U shaped groove in the center before starting rotation. It will rotate the area below where you place it in the U shaped groove, so if you place it too low on the strands of hair, it wonât curl above that area as it rotates below the area placed on it.I found an easy way to get the hair into the groove was to grasp a strand of hair and slide the U shape groove quickly up my hair (starting lower, moving higher) toward the roots. If you canât set your hair in it there, you can quickly slide it up your hair to that area. I could place a lower area in the U shape, then quickly slide up the strand of my hair until I was higher up near the roots, then start the rotation and curling. If you donât want curls up as high, you can start mid length. But you canât start lower or at the ends of your hair. I start up higher toward the roots. You place the strands of hair you are curling in the center of the curler laying it in the center up higher up on your hair (toward the roots or mid if you want your curls lower) not the ends. It wonât curl properly if you put the ends in it vs higher up near the roots or mids of your hair.Do not put your hair in the outer area or âpetalsâ between them and the center. It may wrap and guide your hair as it wraps it and some of your hair may go there, but if you put your hair there vs the center or between or behind a âpetal prongâ vs the center it wonât work properly or curl well. Let the rotation move your hair there as it rotates, but donât start rotating it with your hair there vs the center U groove area. The top area of the hair or curl must be fully in the center not just in the outer area. Then you rotate the direction you want, stop the rotation when the hair is wrapped (donât keep continuously rotating during use and curling) and wait for the beeps to release your hair. I think the timer starts when you stop rotating your hair, so be careful not to keep rotating your hair during use.I found that pushing upward (toward my roots, but not touching my scalp) a bit into the curl while it was curling got a better curl. I just lifted the device a little toward my roots during curling, but was careful not to touch my scalp. Pull the device downward to release vs trying to rotate to release your hair after itâs curled.I didnât see perfect curl hair placement with rotation on the barrel but the device is very forgiving vs others Iâve tried. I was concerned at first that the wrap around the barrel wasnât perfect and not as tight as I wanted or if using a wand or hot iron. The device was very forgiving and all my curls turned out even and well, even if some didnât look as well wrapped during curling. Iâve tried other devices that when the curls are wrapped less tightly or imperfectly you donât get a good or even curl, this device was very forgiving and all the curls turned out well, better than I expected as some didnât look evenly wrapped while curling. Itâs more beginner friendly and forgiving in the results than other curlers.Basically place the hair (I liked the pull it up from a lower area of the strand to the roots technique), rotate until all the hair to the ends is wrapped (doesnât have to be perfect or look perfect, just in there), stop the rotation, slightly push upward toward the roots while holding the wrap, wait for the beep, donât rotate again but pull the device straight down to release the curl. You will need to use heat protectant before use. Iâd suggest Kenra Thermal Styling Spray 19 (brush-able hold, easier to use) or Redken Thermal Spray 22 (much stiffer hold, harder to brush through) and brush through after very lightly applying before use. Some automatic curlers have tangling issues. A lot will depend on your hair texture, type, length and how big of a section you use. Donât go too large with your hair sections. However, compared to closed clamp down style curlers (Babyliss Miracurl, the older Conair Infinity Pro Curl Secrets) these are a lot less prone to tangling and if you do get a tangled itâs much easier to get your hair out vs a closed area curler. You may want to have a heat glove on hand to use to detangle on the off chance you do get a tangle. The best way to detangle is to simply pull downward to release your hair. Donât try to rotate it loose, youâre more likely to make a tangle worse. This one does have a smart chip to detect tangles.Instructions are included, Iâd suggest also referring to the listing pictures and video for use tips as well. Note that no storage bag or case, heat glove, comb or clips are included. You may want to have some sectioning clips of your own for use. You should brush or comb each section out before curling so itâs not tangled. I didnât need to use a heat glove during use. You will need a heat mat or surface thatâs heat friendly to lay it on when itâs heating, between curls or when itâs cooling down (no mat is included).I liked that I didnât tire my arm out with the weight of this one. I love the pricey Chi Lava curler, but it is so heavy during use, much heavier than this one, it tires my arm out and the results are no better than I get from this one. So if other auto curlers are too heavy for you, this one is super light by comparison and still performs very well.

Curls well, but my hair is very fine and does curl easily.
