All-Mountain Pedal for All Conditions
The PD-M9120 is a top of the line pedal designed for all-mountain, enduro, and trail riding. On the climbs you’ll appreciate its excellent power transfer. On the descents you’ll enjoy the extra bike control and stability due to its wide platform and pedal-to-shoe contact area. Rain or shine, up or down, the PD-M9120 will be on your side.
Better Up & Down
The wide-bearing placement of the PD-M9120 creates a stiff pedal with uniform distribution of force for efficient power transfer on the climbs. Its wider platform creates more shoe-to-pedal contact for better stability and control on the descents, even when you’re not clipped in.
Improved Durability
The PD-M9120 has an integrated platform to protect the binding mechanism from impacts such as rock strikes. The slimmer axle housing is excellent at shedding mud and grime for reliable engagement and release in all conditions. The chrome-molly spindles and sealed bearings are low-maintenance and durable.

Efficient, safe, and high-quality
I have a dear friend who is a diehard SPD-hater after having experienced a pretty terrible accident during which his “egg-beater” style pedal (=non-adjustable) failed to release. That anecdote kept me away from this tech for a long while, but there are simply too many people who I see riding with these for me not to finally check them out. I decided that I was going to get the absolute highest quality SPD pedal I could find – and I’m pretty sure these are it. (I obviously cannot compare them to any other SPD option…) I shipped other options, but the quality vs. cost vs. history is what sold me on these. I haven’t regretted yet (300+ miles and gaining). The install went easy on my bike, though the cleat arrangement was a little less intuitive, probably because I’m an engineer and rather particular about my knees. Once I got them on and adjusted, I had my first, surreal, clicked-in experience and, let me tell you, the hype is legit. At this point I have been cycling/mountain biking for long enough that a day of 20+miles of single track doesn’t really make me all that sore. However, a single, fairly tentative paced, 10-mile day in these was enough to make sore in unusual ways for the following couple of days. Being connected to pedals like this obviously permits access to a set of muscles that were previously underutilized. I am substantially faster climbing, more confident about my lines – particularly with my rear wheel placement, and I absolutely rip going down (though that’s not all that unusual for me). For trail/Enduro style riding these are awesome. If I’m riding a park (eg. scaring myself on huge jumps and obstacles), or running serious downhill stuff, I am on flats. That is because my brain lacks the capacity to crash and unclip simultaneously.Sure, I have had the “oh cr@p, I’m stuck” slow-motion falling over experience like everyone does but, because these are adjustable, at higher speeds I have had zero problems this far getting free of my bike to crash with grace, style, and unusual amounts of charisma. Perhaps my favorite thing is that the extra connection seems to allow me a higher probability of recovering from (frequent) stupid mistakes instead of being launched instantly over the bars. Better – even if I do get bucked out of the pedals (they’re setup very loose) and can hang on, they function as a decent flat pedal until I can get the situation under control – and often just pop right back in while I’m frantically flailing/unintentionally making awesome aerobatic history. Now, I should point out that I do believe that a rider who is just starting out in the glorious sport of mountain biking should really consider sticking with flat pedals until they are a confident and competent rider. SPD pedals can easily mask bad technique and limit your progression. Once having progressed a little, this upgrade is actually rather cheap when one considers the capability they enable. I, for one, am very unlikely to willingly equip a XC hardtail or trail bike with a flat pedal again.Hope this helps you make a decision. See you on the trail/mountain/hospital!

The best
second set. ran my first set of XTR for 15 years, beat them to death and I’m sticking with what works. the platform is the right size, clip in / out action is familiar and perfect every time. durability is tops. and they are serviceable. zero complaints. god willing I’ll buying another set 15 years from now.

Great pedals, seals fine
Great pedals as expected for XTR. Platform does provide a better feel and seems to guide cleat into position. Also, seems like they fixed the seal issue. The spindle is machined with a ridge/bead next to the seal to keep it from backing out.

Great in the dry conditions,, But mud?
Ive ridden a few hundred miles on mixed terrain, these have been on a hardtail. I have XT spds for my gravel bike which have 3k miles or so im not a complete clip-less noob. All that said. i love the feel of being extra connected to my bike, and my feet don’t get kicked off the pedals on bumps. As with all Shimano SPD pedals you can adjsut the clip in tension, so beginners can make it easier to get out of the pedals when its time to stop. oddly enough once you kind of get used to the unclipping motion the losser (easier tension) setting make it feel harder/slower to get out of.i recently put them on a full squish and went to a bike park. the first run was magical, then it started raining. As the day progressed a found a few things out. A.) these spds can be a lil squirrely to get into in a hurry. SO if you pause in a section to walk a line first or to catch your breath or what ever reason, getting clipped back in can take a second. You can find yourself trying to navigate a tech section or some roots while not fully clipped in; That kinda sucks. While these have some platform they do not have much traction as thats gained from being clipped in. So more then a few times i sent it while not having had the run in time to properly clip in.B.) Add some mud to the equation and clipping in can get even hairier. The combination of small pebbles, mud, spd cleats and pedals can make clipping in even more difficult. A few times i got a pebble stuck in the cleat area of my shoe which made clipping in impossible without clearing the pebble with a stick or something. Even just mud can build and make clipping in a bit more challenging.I have only ridden SPD clipless pedals, so i can not compare these issues with CB, TIME or other clipless brands. Ive invested in the SPD so im sticking with it.

Awesome SPD platform pedal
Awesome for fast casual off-road mtb bike park riding. I love the wider platform. I’ve been using XT/747s for decades but this wider platform is so much better as you don’t have to clip in and use it as a platform. Some ppl I’ve seen mention the rubber/plastic seal of the axle and pedal falls out. But I’ve seen this on ppl who take their pedal apart and don’t replace that seal. I haven’t had an issue with the seal moving at all. I have over 200 off-road miles on the pedals already in mostly dry environment with no issues.I plan on trying these on my road bike as an alternate to Look Keo pedals.

I used these for 3+ years on my MTB before deciding I like them so much I bought another pair for my gravel bike. They’ve taken a real beating but other than superficial damage, work as well as when I first installed them.
