Reviews are right. Chain caked with wax residue and remnants in the bag.
Contrary to marketing pictures shown by Silica, the chain will arrive quite grimy and caked full of wax in all crevices.I imagine for the price tag of $125, the quality would be a bit less rushed.If you are someone who wants to start with a new waxed chain like I did, I am looking into DIY options using Silica’s StripChip and hot melt wax.

Poor Execution
I already have a Silca wax pot, and have been using their wax for years. I needed to replace my chain due to regular wear, so I ordered a new already waxed one just out of sheer convenience.The chain came with way too much wax, and it looks as if the wax was a bit off. Almost like they did a poor job of waxing it, and then shook a bunch of tungsten disulfide powder on it afterwards.My chain also failed to come with the quicklink. Like, come on Silca.

Works great now but a mess at first
I was really surprised at how much excess wax there was on the chain and thought at first that a mistake had been made until I read other reviews. The chain was very stiff and tended to skip at first. That being said, after one ride it ran much more smoothly and much of the excess has come off, so it runs well now. There should be some explanation in the package.

Lots of extra wax
I’ve stripped and waxed my own chains before and I like a solution that comes ready (especially the stripping part). I will rewax the chain in the future as needed with the silca wax. This chain came with lots of wax on the face of the chain in between the chain links. It takes a ton of work getting the chain to a state where it stops jumping on the rear cassette and it makes a large mess. They could have done a better job at pulling the chain out of the wax before it was too thick.

Too much wax
Not sized properly, not unbroken. The chain was too long.They shouldalso allow the chain to cool down with the rivets parallel to the ground to allow excess wax to drain from the chainlinks. They coil the chain on its side which leaves tons of wax in the links and all over the outside.

Installs easily, skips having to buy a new chain and clean it, prepare it for waxing. Can top it up with silka secret blend drip wax. Eventually will need to buy the pouch of wax.Good choice for those without an ultrasounic cleaning unit

Listen to the reviews about too much wax or a poor wax application. They are correct. I thought it looked fine and maybe the excess would fall off when riding. I was wrong – the chain lasted maybe 250km before it started getting noisy. Very disappointed. Most SILCA stuff is great but this one is a miss.

Great product, but the wax was a bit smooth when I opened the package, I suspected contamination. When I had to clean it for a rewax, (hot water bath) the chain still had a oil/contaminent on it and I had to use a good amount of degreaser to clean it totally. That is very abnormal coming from a quality brand like silca fully dedicated to their product.
