I’m Happy! … with the Weber Charcoal Go-Anywhere
Purchased the Weber Go Anywhere (WGA), charcoal version, in Dec-2013. We are now empty nesters looking for something more convenient than the 22.5″ kettle or Genesis gas grill, currently in the stable, for small home cooks, and to take camping and/or for picnics. Also wanting something better, in my experience, than the Smokey Joe Silver in terms of true portability and versatility in cooking. The SJS is unpredictable and touchy as far as maintaining the fire with the lid on. Still might use it on occasion, but tried all the recommended fixes and it just doesn’t satisfy. So … initial impressions of the WGA-charcoal are very good …* Assembly- simple, and no giant bag of nuts/bolts/screws to lose and that eventually rust,* Quality- impressive per usual Weber MO, has some “heft” not seen on cheaper small grills,* Design- very creative and very functional,* Cooking- excellent so far.Still working on proper briquette count for different cooks, but impressed that contrary to my initial concern the minimal distance between the charcoal and cooking grids has not caused flareups or burnt food. In fact, I have found it to cook quickly but with a good balance of external searing and internal moisture and doneness of the food. Responds quickly and predictably to the vent controls. It is very efficient on fuel, and as others have reported I expect to be able to use leftover charcoal on a regular basis. Seals up tight with all the vents closed, and with the legs folded is very compact for travel, and minimal chance for an ash or grease spill into the trunk or RV storage area. I see lots of potential with the rectangular shape for indirect and two zone cooking of small, but still adequate, batches. I think the cooking grid size is just right if consideration is given to the design intent here … quick cooks for individuals or small groups, and emphasis on no-hassle portability. Highly recommend the acquired idea of putting foil beneath the charcoal grate for easy cleanup. Based on the quality of design and materials, I expect this grill to last many years with reasonable care.I give the WGA-charcoal 5 stars for addressing my primary needs in fine form; grilling for a couple or small gatherings, grilling on the road, easy to store and deploy. Also satisfies my desire and ability to grill more often, with charcoal, with minimal fuss!Have fun out there … Paul

Fantastic portable bbq. I have a kamado that is larger and tends to use more charcoal and often I just need a few burgers or steaks done and to use car camping so I purchased the smaller Weber. This Weber is very well made, easy to assemble and use. Cheap thin models at Cdn Tire are $70. For an extra few bucks purchase the Weber that’s made and built to last. Have used camping, at the beach etc. Folding design transports in a pinch. Only MINOR gripe is that top handle can get a bit hot when bbq is used at high temps. Most times I have used its not an issue. A cheap light oven mitt/glove is all you need or even a facecloth to lift cover if hot. Its never been to hot I couldn’t touch handle to remove. Fantastic grill, highly recommended!
