Great part for repair wheel on Trek
Somehow the axel got bent in the front wheel of my Trek hybrid. I was able to unscrew the front axel and replaced with the new axel and skewer. Took 10 minutes and all good to ride!!

May have to get some different spacers to fit your frame
The solid front axle was replaced easily with quick release using the original bearing races and nuts and dropped right into the front fork. The rear axle with the freewheel was an exercise in spacing, using some spacers and nuts that I already had. Even after swapping out different spacers and differently sized nut thicknesses, I eventually had to grind down a bit of the axle to make it shorter so it would fit the distance between the rear forks of my old steel framed Trek mountain bike. The original wheel had a much longer solid axle that had nuts on the end – stronger but a pain to work on without a socket wrench. The kit comes with 2 differently sized pairs of races for the bearings. I just used the original races as I knew they fit, and used the time to repack the bearings with new grease. At least the rear axle wasn’t too short, as then I wouldn’t have been able to use it. Once installed, it’s nice to be able to quickly remove the wheel for tube or tire changes. The webpage says you don’t need tools, but I used a thin 15mm wheel wrench and a regular 17mm open wrench to loosen and tighten the lock/spacing nuts. I don’t see how you can do the job without these.4 stars – Works, but in my case required a bit of bicycle mechanic knowledge. This Trek had a 7 gear freewheel cassette and the axle might be designed for rear stays that fit an 8 or 9 gear freewheel.

Not great quality.
Wasnât happy with them. Returned. For a bit more I got a set from the local bicycle shop that was much better.

Axle failed catastrophicly
Installed axle and the quick release failed, opening up at full speed. I dumped the bike, bent my front tire and injured my leg. My brand new bike is now damaged and my leg is injured. 9/10 dentists would not recommend.

I use these replacement axle skewers to rebuild a bicycle hub that was worn out. I was able to clean and replace the free floating ball bearings in conjunction with these skewers to save the wheels that were destined for the trash. Due to the various axle standards on the market, ensure that your bicycle wheel uses quick release axles instead of through axles and measure the previous axle’s length that is being replaced.

I have both the black and silver version of these skewer and shaft sets, but there are differences outside of the color that I need to explain in this review.First off, “all aluminum alloy” is a bit misleading. On both the black and silver versions, the lever is aluminum, but the rod, shafts, bolts, etc. are all steel (not sure what kind, but they are steel). While both look identical, the parts that grab onto the dropouts differ. On the silver version, these appear to be plastic and aluminum (not magnetic at all). However, the black version seems to have steel and plastic, which would be a better option since installing the silver one on a steel framed bike could strip out the teeth on those parts. The overall quality of both the shafts and skewers appear to be good, and while I do still prefer all steel skewers (in particular, Chromoly), these are a good value, especially if you plan to service the axle shafts.I can see this set being handy if you buy used bikes, recondition, and sell them.

My front wheel was wobbling quite dangerously due to something loose, at the time I did not know what the cause was. I decided to buy a replacement axle and was unsure of how durable these axles are but decided to give it a go anyway.I only replaced the front tire since the read one is working fine. So far, it has withstood my reckless biking and to that I give it props.

I ordered this set because the fork mount I got didn’t come with any, so I am using this with a fork mount in my van that prevents my bike from moving around inside without strapping it down. These quick releases are great quality and come with the center hollow axle as well as the quick releases and springs. Works great, and it is always a good idea to have spares around in case you break one.
